Pilot Project 2002
Less frequented and isolated bus stops run the risk of being removed for financial reasons.
With the objective of saving these stops for the passengers, the Austrian Federal Ministry of Transport, Innovation and Technology (BMVIT) accorded financial support to the project "BEHA On-Demand Stop ", which was set up in a cooperation of the Verkehrsbund Ost-Region (VOR), Dr. Richard, CoCo software com and Mobilkom Austria.
The project was launched in the end of February 2002 with 2 bus lines.
Along the way of bus number 266 (U6 Siebenhirten - Vösendorf - Hennersdorf) and bus number 7900/G1 (Vienna - Wiener Neustadt - Burgenland) seven BEHA-Points were established.
One example - prior to the existence of our BEHA-Points, bus number G1 had to leave the Südautobahn (high way) to reach the stop Wr. Neustadt - no matter if there was a passenger or not. Now this bus stop can be dealt with in a much more economical manner, according to demand.
This pilot phase confirms for us the technical feasibility of BEHA Points. It was useful for gathering and evaluating experience, and to applay improvements as necessary to hardware and software. The data collected during the pilot phase confirmed that the cost reduction projected corresponds to reality.
